Highlighting Issues

Business Market Watch London

Business Market Watch London is a simple easy to read journal,
highlighting issues of common concern.  This allows the community and
neighbourhoods, especially around the small businesses to have a voice
as well as compete, with bigger high street stores and chains, in a
medium that they would not necessarily engage with or subscribe too,
unless it is in the interest of the community for this to be the case.

The other areas of development as well as interest are around the
communication lines between the statutory authorities and the wider
community. Most businesses are not aware of the benefits of engaging
with each other through a “BMWL”, to become an informed group of
individuals, all looking out for each other’s best interest.  The
purpose of the partnership is to protect the integrity of the scheme,
by having a single point of contact with partners in the local police
and in the local authority i.e. the council.

Other areas of involvement are to be the eyes and ears of each
other, by looking out collectively for any threats perceived by any
anti social behaviour or unacceptable level of criminal activity in
the area.

The partnership brings more aware in the needs of the community, as
individuals feel more inclined to speak out at meetings, showing a
greater cooperation towards each other, building on trust as well as
attracting more investment and in some cases in the eyes of the
landlord more investment along regeneration and modernisation issues
.

To provide guidance and advise to all our groups in the immediate area, with provision to select individuals in most need of our service i.e. parents of children in state education, with barriers preventing them from progressing from being a refugee or asylum seeker, working with the landlord to provide community development activities, especially to supervise the progress of groups looking to become autonomous, with little or no knowledge of local authority procedures, e.g. an individual starting a business, knows little of the criteria around health and hygiene, when providing food in a restaurant, licensing authorities sometimes enforce from the start, we act as a buffer through our membership, to create an ethos of advise, as well as nurturing role through us.

Business Market Watch Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Business Market Watch London is a partnership between the wider community and businesses. Its goal – in partnership with the local police, other statutory authorities and the third sector – is to help eliminate crime by reducing anti-social behaviour,  in order to improve the quality of life in the local neighbourhoods through regeneration and investment in small businesses thus keeping the local economy vibrant.

While a monthly offline magazine already exists, an online Newspaper is more vibrant and fun as it allows both static and dynamic content supplying the community with fast and regular updates, fast information, fast answering to comments and questions and therefore an interactive as well as extremely convenient community platform for the readership – given the fact that most if not all targeted households have a PC.

Getting the News out

The main objective will now be to decide on the various categories this Newspaper will contain and getting the target audience interested in the Benefits the Newspaper will offer. The more we think about it the more we would suggest to open up and make the process itself an interactive one right from the beginning.
