Nile Valley
The Nile Valley Community Group is increasingly becoming an
indispensible part of our local community and Charity.
Their centre in the heart of our local Shepherds Bush Market, serve
the immediate community and surrounding neighbourhood in many ways, in
particular for our venue and meetings of the following:
Business Watch & New Shepherds Bush Market Traders Association
(As a member organisation as well as host for meetings and seminars
especially with our partners from the Metropolitan Police, and British
Transport Police)
Market Community Centre Charity (as one of our core member organisations)
MCC relies on the support and resources of NVCG, without that
symbiotic relationship our members and Trustees would not have a venue
to meet, as we often are facilitated at very short notice in their
centre, to conduct meetings and discussion groups with many
politicians, council and police officers and other statutory
authorities.
Should any further information be required, please do not hesitate to
contact either myself or the Chairman of New Shepherds Bush Market

Pakistani Culture and Society
In Pakistan majority 97% are Muslims and the rest are Hindu, Christian and other.
In Islam they pray five times a day – at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening.
Friday is the Muslim holy day.
During the holy month of Ramadan all Muslims must fast from dawn to dusk and are only permitted to work a limited hours per day. Fasting includes no eating, drinking, cigarette smoking.
The official language of Pakistan is Urdu. English is the second language generally used for Pakistani elite and most of the government ministries.
Urdu is closely related to Hindi but is written in an extended Arabic alphabet rather than in Devanagari. Urdu also has more loans from Arabic and Persian
Many other languages are spoken in Pakistan, including Punjabi Siraiki, Sindhi, Pashtu, Balochi, Hindko, Brahui, Burushaski, Balti, Khawar, Gujrati
Keep an eye for the next topic!!!!

Business Market Watch London
Business Market Watch London is a simple easy to read journal,
highlighting issues of common concern. This allows the community and
neighbourhoods, especially around the small businesses to have a voice
as well as compete, with bigger high street stores and chains, in a
medium that they would not necessarily engage with or subscribe too,
unless it is in the interest of the community for this to be the case.
The other areas of development as well as interest are around the
communication lines between the statutory authorities and the wider
community. Most businesses are not aware of the benefits of engaging
with each other through a “BMWL”, to become an informed group of
individuals, all looking out for each other’s best interest. The
purpose of the partnership is to protect the integrity of the scheme,
by having a single point of contact with partners in the local police
and in the local authority i.e. the council.
Other areas of involvement are to be the eyes and ears of each
other, by looking out collectively for any threats perceived by any
anti social behaviour or unacceptable level of criminal activity in
the area.
The partnership brings more aware in the needs of the community, as
individuals feel more inclined to speak out at meetings, showing a
greater cooperation towards each other, building on trust as well as
attracting more investment and in some cases in the eyes of the
landlord more investment along regeneration and modernisation issues.

Reduce Crime Further
Sgt Saul Woolf (SBG SNT) is pictured with members of the Shepherds Bush Market Business Watch. Saul has been an inspiration, dedicating his team(s) precious time towards community engagement and community cohesion.
As one of the newest members of our “Community Champion” Inspector Bill Heasman’s team, Saul has proven to be an invaluable asset, and is certainly in a category of excellence, with all the other dedicated members from our 24/7 SNT.
It is a real partnership showing our communities and neighbourhoods working together, to help reduce crime further, as well as reduce the perceived crime too!
Here are some of the statistics for us to judge for ourselves: Over 2 years of pilot – robbery down on ward 60%. Drugs detections up by 110%. Vehicle crime down by 20%. Street drinkers reduced from 40 to 3 (last official count Oct 08) Violent crime slight increase overall but down in year 2 compared to year one by about 5%.
